Sinus lift
What is the maxillary sinus?
The maxillary sinus is an air pocket that sits above the upper back teeth, on either side of the nose,
and its size and position differ from person to person.
As we age the sinus comes down, and the jawbone can then be too thin
for an implant to be placed.
In that case the sinus membrane is lifted in a sinus lift, and bone is grafted
before the implant is placed.

Types of graft material

Autogenous bone
Bone taken from the patient themselves.
There is no immune rejection, and its main role is
activating bone cells. -
Allograft bone
Bone taken from a donated human body.
Its healing capacity is good, so it is mainly used when
too little autogenous bone can be harvested. -
Xenograft bone
Mostly animal bone.
It does little to form bone and serves to hold the shape. -
Synthetic bone
Artificial bone made through a special process.
It does not activate bone cells, but it holds
its shape well.

THE Graft
A natural bone graft material from Purgo, containing the bone matrix and
made of porcine cancellous bone from which protein has been effectively removed.Because it is similar to human tissue its biocompatibility is high, and it is
a xenograft material processed with a special technique to remove organic matter
that could trigger an immune response. -
Bio-Oss
A natural xenograft bone material from Geistlich Pharma.
It has high osteoconductivity and a stable resorption rate, and preserves volume well.
It has been in use and studied for more than 30 years,
and is used across a wide range of dental indications.
